Bad Church, Good Church

December 11, 2011 - 10:15am

Tom Kane, writer for The River Reporter, will speak about his life's journey as told in his current book, "Bad Church, Good Church: A Memoir of a Former Catholic Priest." This will be the second in a series of services presented on the subject of "Transformation."

"Bad Church, Good Church" is not a theological treatise. It is the story of a man who grew up at the beginning of the Great Depression in a poor Irish-Catholic neighborhood in Philadelphia and who was a priest for 10 years after spending 10 preparatory years in the seminary. During his tenure as a priest, Kane found himself in deep conflict with the harsh moral positions taken by Catholic leaders, finally rejecting their positions and leaving the priesthood and finally the Church. He no longer considers himself a Catholic or a Christian but lives an ardent and quiet spiritual life following his own conscience.
