Walk for Social Justice

For the past 16 years on the third Sunday in October, walkers from the Upper Delaware Unitarian Universalist Fellowship have hosted a Walk for Social Justice. Named after Bud Rue, a founding member of the UDUUF who suffered as asthma attack and died on the first walk, the annual events has raised nearly $47,000 over the years.

Working to build just and sustainable communities is part of the faith in action of the Unitarian Universalist denomination and is an explicit mission and goal of the UDUUF.

This year's recipients include:
VICTIMS INTERVENTION PROGRAM (VIP)
Provides emergency services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other serious crimes including family members of homicide victims, victims of DUI crashes, victims of robbery and victims of physical assault. Operates in Wayne County.
RAPE INTERVENTION SERVICE & EDUCATION (RISE)

Offers assistance to victims of sexual assault, including listening (hotline), counseling and facilitating medical and legal services. Operates in Sullivan County, NY.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
(WAYNE & SULLIVAN Co. Chapters)

Builds homes with low-income families. Offers no interest and no profit mortgage to homeowners. Families put in “sweat equity” and help with construction, fund-raising and other organizational tasks.
